A key figure in Swiss modernism, Hans Eichenberger has shaped over half a century of furniture and interior design history through a disciplined, functional approach to wood and tubular steel construction. Emerging from a background in cabinetmaking, drafting, and a formative period in Paris, he later established his own studio in Bern, working across interior architecture and furniture design alongside firms such as Dietiker, de Sede, and WOGG, as well as collaborations with the architecture collective Atelier 5.

Designed in 1956, the HE-113 armchair sits within the lineage of early modernist “new objectivity,” often referenced alongside the work of Le Corbusier, Mies van der Rohe, and Marcel Breuer. Initially introduced internationally as part of the Swiss Design Collection and later distributed in the United States by Charles Stendig under the name “New Bauhaus,” the design has since become a recognized classic of post-war Swiss furniture.

This pair of armchairs, upholstered in natural Naugahyde, presents well overall and remains highly comfortable. The frames are structurally sound with little to no signs of wear, rare for the age. The main condition related note is UV-related fading to the upholstery, visible only on the reverse side when cushions are removed, while remaining discreet during everyday use.

    Priced and sold individually.
