RENTAL ONLY - 'Yeti' Model Rocking Chair By Mario Scheichenbauer For Elam
1968-1970s production.
Mario Scheichenbauer is an Austrian designer recognized for his playful and experimental approach to furniture and product design. His work often blends humor, craftsmanship, and conceptual thinking, exploring the boundary between functionality and sculptural expression. The result is a body of work that is both visually engaging and highly considered in its use.
The Yeti Rocking Chair exemplifies this approach. Defined by its exaggerated, rounded forms and soft, enveloping surfaces, the chair evokes a sense of comfort and tactility, while its rocking base introduces movement and interaction. Carefully balanced in proportion and ergonomics, it transforms a familiar typology into a more immersive, almost experiential object.
This example has been fully reupholstered in Mongolian yak fur in an off-white, bone-toned finish, emphasizing the chair’s material richness and tactile quality. It remains in exceptional condition. Held as part of a private collection, this piece is not available for sale, but may be offered for rental to select clients and industry professionals.
