Eames Sofa Compact by Charles & Ray Eames for Herman Miller
2012 production.
Designed by Charles and Ray Eames for Herman Miller, the Eames Sofa Compact pairs the comfort of a full-size sofa with a remarkably lean, architectural profile. In continuous production for more than five decades, its restrained form is supported by concealed reinforced webbing, an enamelled steel frame, and slender tubular steel legs, providing firm yet flexible support from shoulders to knees.
Produced in 2012, this example is upholstered in a warm grey textile, possibly Herman Miller’s Oyster (TI79), and is finished with polished chrome-plated legs and stainless steel glides. Its compact proportions make it particularly suited to smaller living spaces, studies, offices, alcoves, and lounges without sacrificing the presence or comfort of a traditional sofa.
A lasting example of the Eameses’ ability to balance economy of form with everyday function, the Sofa Compact remains as relevant today as when it was first introduced.
