Designed by Alvar Aalto for Artek in 1935, the K65 High Chair is a compact expression of Aalto’s approach to bentwood furniture. Its tall proportions are balanced by a small circular seat, low curved backrest, and slender birch legs, with an integrated footrest completing the deceptively simple structure.

Believed to date from the late 1990s, this example is made in Finland from warm, clear-finished birch. Aalto’s characteristic bent L-legs give the stool its soft, continuous profile, while the gently formed plywood back provides just enough support without adding visual weight.

The piece presents beautifully overall, with minor wear and markings to the seat consistent with age and use. Rather than distracting from the design, these subtle signs of wear give the birch a nicely lived-in character while the overall structure and finish remain in great vintage condition.
