Designed by Tobia Scarpa for Flos in 1975, the Papillona floor lamp reflects the restrained yet experimental spirit that defined Italian lighting design of the era. Its slender vertical form is softened by a wing-like diffuser - the inspiration behind its name, derived from the French word for butterfly.

Constructed in painted aluminum with a glass upper diffuser, the lamp emits a soft, indirect glow while maintaining a distinctly architectural presence. Minimal in footprint yet expressive in silhouette, Papillona embodies Scarpa’s characteristic balance between industrial clarity and material sensitivity. This example features the black frame with red accent detailing running the length of the stem.

It remains in great vintage condition overall, with light wear consistent with age and use. The lamp functions well with a halogen bulb and has been fitted with an aftermarket dimmer for adjustable light output. One small plastic cover beneath the base is missing, though it is not visible during use.
