Set of 6 CAB 412 Dining Chairs in Talpa Brown by Mario Bellini for Cassina
1980-2000 production.
Designed by Mario Bellini for Cassina in the 1970s, the Cab chair was the first to feature a free-standing saddle leather structure - conceived through the relationship between skin and skeleton. Its tailored leather shell is stretched over a steel frame much like a bespoke garment, assembled through a highly detailed process of hand-cutting, trimming, and stitching.
Now considered a defining piece within Cassina’s I Contemporanei collection, Cab remains notable for its sculptural restraint, material honesty, and exceptional production craftsmanship.
This set of six retains its original character beautifully, with a softened patina and markings consistent with age and use. The leather has worn in evenly across all chairs and presents exceptionally well overall. Minor surface marks and natural lines throughout the saddle leather are present, though there are no rips, tears, or seam damage. Each chair retains the original Cassina manufacturer’s mark beneath the frame structure.
Finished in “Talpa” - an earthy muted taupe - the tone shifts subtly depending on the light, lending itself equally well to contemporary interiors and warmer, more layered spaces.
